Video Monday

I'm dubbing today "Video Monday". I'll let you figure out where I came up with that one... I'm having a very creative day. Can you hear the sarcasm through the computer?
We are going to start out with Jayce reading - yes, I did say "reading". This is a Lightening McQueen book that he loves to have read to him. I guess he's memorized the words, because the other day I found him on the couch, "reading" it to himself. I remember doing that as a child... I hope he has a love for books like I do!

Secondly, we have our own two man band. Coming soon to a venue near you!

Last, here's a little taste of our vacation. Jayce is "jumping" in Lake Superior - or where Eagle River dumps into Lake Superior. Yes, I do still have intentions of posting pictures from our trip to Gitche Gumee from a few weeks ago... I'm just a huge procrastinator.

Happy Birthday Grandpa!!

Today is my father-in-law's 60th birthday (sorry Dad Meyers for talking about your age, but I think it's a pretty big accomplishment!), and we are celebrating with a possible move from the hospital to a nursing care facility. Hopefully the whole family will get together tonight and celebrate the big day!
To the best father-in-law a girl could have, to one of the strongest people I know, to the person who has fought this battle with so much grace, to the best Grandpa two boys could have, happy birthday.

Grayson's Birthday

Last week was Grayson's first birthday, and we celebrated! Boy, did we celebrate.
Both of the boys loved the balloons we got for Grayson. However, it seemed like Grayson preferred to chew on them rather than play with them. Jayce is still running around the house with the balloons.
We started out our day with a special breakfast. And yes, that's a balloon.
Jayce had Mickey Mouse and a "j".
Grayson had help opening his presents. Jayce didn't quite grasp the concept of Grayson opening his own presents, and Grayson wasn't really that interested in tearing off the paper himself, so they made a great team.
He really was very happy, most of the day. He just didn't like that I made him sit in the paper to take a picture.
Jayce helped decorate a card that Aunt Susie sent for Grayson (Thanks Aunt Susie!! Can't wait to see you guys in a couple of weeks!)
Grayson and Jayce really enjoy the new toys Grayson got for his birthday. I'll have to post the video of Grayson dancing to the music the drum plays.
Grayson is mesmerized by the stacking cups he got. Put the small one in, take it out. Put the small one in, take it out. He did it again today. I'd say they are a hit!
No, Jayce didn't get any presents, although you can't convince him of that. He's pretty sure that this Lightening and Mater are actually his!
Poor kid skipped part of his nap time, so he fell asleep at dinner. On my hand. It was actually pretty sweet.
Shame on me, I probably should have let him go to bed, but I woke my sleepy birthday boy up for some cake! (Oh, and sorry for the off coloring in these photos... they turned out a little weird.)
I believe he's a pyromaniac in the making. I'm not sure if he was just curious, or planning on shoving it in my face for waking him up.
When we first put the cake on his tray, he picked up pieces of corn and hot dog from dinner and put it on his frosting. Doesn't that sound appetizing!
After a few tastes of icing, he was all smiles.
Grayson was a big fan of birthday cake. Mmm...
Jayce was not a big fan on me taking a picture of him.
Opening presents that Nana and Papa brought over to West MI. This was from Aunt Jeanette and Uncle Harold. (Thanks for the DVD! I'm looking forward to watching it with the boys!)
Grayson really likes his new piano. Mommy and Daddy aren't too sure we like it... after all, it makes a lot of noise! The boys love it though.
On Saturday, we planned to have a birthday party for Grayson at a local park. Unfortunately, we chose the worst day of the week to have an outdoor party. The weather wasn't horrible - that would have actually been welcomed. However, it was chilly (for August) and sunny one minute, rainy the next. If someone needed a good physical example of stereotypical "Michigan weather," Saturday would have been it. That being said, it was difficult to decide if we should have the party outdoors like we'd planned, or at a friend's house (some wonderful friends of ours graciously offered their house as a back up should the weather have been bad - a huge THANKS to them!!). We chose the friend's house.
Grayson had a great time playing with some of their toys. Here he is balancing on a sit n' spin while holding a new toy from Grandma and Grandpa. When he first opened this walking toy, he picked it up (instead of rolling it) and walked about 5 steps.
Since we were inside for the majority of the party, I suggested going outside for cup cakes and bike riding (for the older kids). Approximately 4 minutes after we went out (mind you, it was sunny and beautiful when I made the decision to go outside...), it started to rain. Just my luck for the day. What matters, though, is that Grayson was thrilled to see another "cake" and candle. He also likes the birthday song. Good thing, too, because Jayce sang it to him about 50 times last weekend.
I do believe this is my favorite picture from his whole birthday weekend.
After cupcakes, we went back inside and played with friends until it was time to go home to bed.
We had a really good time celebrating Grayson's first birthday, and we are looking forward to celebrating many, many more with him. Happy Birthday, Grayson! We love you!!

Oh, and this is my friend's daughter, the princess. I wanted to add this one in here because I think she's so stinkin' adorable. And I thought my friend would want to save it.

i {heart} faces

Hey, look at me! I'm actually posting my i {heart} faces entry on time this week! Go me!!

This week's theme is "nostalgia". I had a tough time coming up with an idea for nostalgia. Should I do something old-looking? Should I do something that reminds me of the past? I started looking through photos, and came up with one of my husband and son holding hands looking at Lake Michigan. It was a nice photo, probably one I'll look at in the future and treasure. I suppose that it fit the criteria, but it just didn't strike me as the "best" fit for the theme.
That's when I remembered this photo. I wouldn't say it was artistically great or that it follows the "rules" of photography. However, it evokes an emotion in me, and that's what I think nostalgia really is. When I look at this picture, it reminds me of my first born son, so tiny and innocent. Not at all the outspoken, boundary-pushing, nearly 3 year old boy. It also reminds me of a better day. Before the chaos of the past two and a half years. My father-in-law, pictured here with my infant son, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer just three months after this picture was snapped. He has fought this horrible disease so courageously and with so much grace. Keep fighting, Grandpa.

Happy Birthday Grayson!

One year ago today, at 8:47 pm, our "little" baby, Grayson, was born. I am having a hard time coming to grips with the idea that a year has already passed... it seems like he just arrived. To celebrate his birthday today, I've put together a picture tutorial of the past year. Sit back, grab a drink, and enjoy. Oh yeah, this post is long!
I think my parents took this picture just after they came in to meet Grayson. He's probably less than an hour old.
This a picture from Jayce's visit the day after Grayson was born.
When we first got home from the hospital.
Grayson's first of many nights at home. He only slept in the bassinet portion of this pack n' play for a couple of weeks before he was to heavy for it.
This is one of my favorite pictures of Jayce and Grayson together from the first weeks he was home. So precious.
September 2008 - Labor day at our neighbor's house. Grandpa got a chance to hang out with Grayson for a while.
It would seem that he started to plump up in September. This is the end of the month. One of my favorite pictures with him.
October 2008 -We went to my parent's house to meet Uncle Kevin and Aunti Rachel for the first time. This is one of my favorite pictures of the boys together. And this is one of the only times Grayson has worn jeans...
November 2008 - We had a family picnic in our side yard. Grayson slept through it, although it certainly would seem like he enjoyed it!This picture was actually taken on Jayce's birthday. Nana and Papa bought Grayson a Bumbo seat. This is the one and only time he sat in it. As you can see, he was already a little big for it even though he was only 3 months old.
December 2008 - We took a ride on the Santa train. Grayson dressed the part.Christmas day 2008 - He pooped out on us during presents. January 2009 - Go Michigan! This was an outfit Jayce wore when he was 16 or 17 months old.I'm a big fan of naked baby pictures.
Febuary 2009 - We were out celebrating Dad Meyers' 2 year anniversary since diagnosis.
6 months old - I tried using my "new" camera and taking my own 6 month pictures for him.March 2009 - Grayson took his first plane ride to Arizona to visit some family. This is the first time I gave him one of those food masher things. It had banana in it. I quickly stopped using them because I realized they are impossible to get clean.
April 2009We went to Mt. Pleasent to visit Jeremy's aunt and uncle that were visiting from Pennsylvania. They stayed at a hotel with a pool so Grayson went swimming for the first time. He loved it!
May 2009 - We were at Nana and Papa's house hanging out. He used to love the exer-saucer.
Memorial Day weekend camping.
We also took a trip to Kentucky to camp with Uncle Kevin and Aunti Rachel.
June 2009 - This was taken at Grayson's dedication at church.Father's Day 2009.
July 2009 - We've spent many a fun day at Meijer Gardens.
Hanging out at the beach while camping with Grandma and Grandpa.
August 2009 - He's getting more and more independent. Grayson is a speed crawler, especially when he's aiming at something he shouldn't be doing. Like the stairs. He's taken his first steps and it seems like he is going to start walking independently any day now. Grayson eats like a champ - eating most things that make it on his plate. He loves fruit of all kinds, corn, hot dogs, grilled chicken, Cheerios, goldfish, etc. Grayson is enamored with his big brother. He loves to laugh at Jayce's crazy antics and he always wants to do what Jayce is doing. His biggest belly laughs have been at Jayce's encouragement. Grayson has said his first word, "bear," and he regularly says, "mama," but mostly when he's upset.
Grayson is a very loving baby. He gives the most amazing hugs, wrapping his arms around you. His laughter and smiles are contagious, you can't help but smile and laugh with him. He loves to make people laugh, often picking up on those things we've found funny, and repeating them for a laugh. His eyes sparkle.
He is my baby, and today he turns one. Happy Birthday Grayson!
